Theta Tau, Omega Chapter
Theta Tau was formed in 1904 at the University of Minnesota. Our Founding Fathers helped build Theta Tau into the nation’s largest and oldest professional engineering fraternity. At SDSM&T, the first fraternity on campus was called Phi Alpha Lambda. On March 26, 1932, Phi Alpha Lambda proudly became the Omega Chapter of Theta Tau.Omega Chapter has a rich history at Mines. Many of the school’s most distinguished alumni are also Brothers of Theta Tau.
Fraternity Life
In recent years, there has been much bad press concerning fraternities nationwide. However, Theta Tau has taken a different path. Theta Tau is a Professional Engineering Fraternity. The fraternity first and foremost promotes brotherhood. We feel that our fraternity serves as a home away from home. At Theta Tau, a member can always count on the support of his Brothers no matter what the situation.
Theta Tau also heavily promotes Professional Development. Through Professional Development, members are given tours of local engineering firms, taught how to speak in public, and given several other tools that will enable them to function successfully in the engineering and business worlds. Historically, fraternities have given advantages to its members.
